Some of the best attractions in France are close to Toulouse which make it ideal to rent a car on your arrival. Pick up your car hire at Toulouse airprot and head out to explore some of the towns and surrounding ares.
Here are a few suggestions for your road trips while visiting the south of France.
From Toulouse to Castres (51 miles/ 82 kms)
Castres is east of Toulouse. A fortified hilltop town in the Midi-Pyrenees region of France. It is built on the banks of The Agout River. You can admire the architecture along the riverside suspended over water like something out of Venice. Visit the Goya Museum which is home to the largest collection of Spanish art in France.
From Toulouse to Carcassonne (59 miles / 95 kms)
One of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in Europe classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. The best way to experience this magical city is strolling the medieval cobble stoned streets. Experience a traditional cassoulet (a hot stew-like dish made from white beans, pork cubes, sausage and sometimes a hunk of duck).
From Toulouse to Bordeaux (152 miles / 244kms)
Bordeaux is south east of Toulouse. The city is best known for its red and white wine but lately the city is attracting visitors thanks to its extraordinary Gothic cathedrals and 18th century mansions. Enjoy a visit to the Musee des Beaux Arts, which features the largest art gallery in France outside of those in Paris.
