When you think of a family holiday in Florida the first thing that springs to mind is DisneyWorld! And of course it is a great place to take the kids with Universal Studios, the Epcot Centre, Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom. But there is also so much more to see and do in Florida.
The Everglades in the southern most part of Florida may not have the glitz of Disneyworld, but it has a different kind of excitement. Tour the Flamingo area on a boat or take a trip on one of the airboats. Take a tram tour and see Shark Valley, the River of Grass, where you will see all types of wildlife and birds. You can also go fishing and canoeing.
Daytona Beach is a mecca for motor racing, but is also an all round family resort. They have lots of events going on throughout the year – the Biketoberfest being the next to be held from 14th to 17th October and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 starts on 20th February 2011. There are lots of other interesting things going on as well, such as during Sea Turtle season you can watch these amazing creatures make nests in the sand.
Miami is a great place to go for a bit of glamour and glitz. Drive along Ocean Drive in your convertible with your shades on, or stroll along the beach with a cocktail. Great fun! There also lots of other things to do here like museums and a sea-aquarium. Visit Little Havana an area full of Cuban restaurants, markets and street performers.
